CONGRESSMAN DODONG CODILLA

During the inauguration of box culvert project in Barangay Rizal, Kananga, Leyte.

AT THE ONSET OF THE NEW CENTURY. The then Mayor Dodong Codilla of Ormoc City is about to exit as the city's chief executive after is three uninterrupted terms in office, and has made significant contribution the city's upliftment into a bustling trade center in the western part of Leyte.

Few among his priority projects in Ormoc has contributed to city's major leap towards development, including modern public market, Superdome, and a building which is now occupied by Gaisano, it was also during his time as the mayor, when JICA poured P 1.2 Billion for the Flood Mitigation Project in Anilao and Malbasag rivers, which is now considered as one of the region or country's engineering marvels.

2001 was indeed historic. Dodong Codilla defeated the incumbent Vicky Locsin in a 2-way congressional fight in 4th district, having a margin of more than 17,000 votes, "maka-bungog ang mayorya" so to speak. But Codilla was deprived of his right for more than 1 and 1/2 year, kumbaga wa siya nakalingkod sa kongreso until December of 2002, because Vicky Locsin refused to give up, and legal battle continue, until Dodong Codilla got the ruling of the Supreme Court as the rightful winner in 2001 election.

Since the assumption to office of Congressman Eufrocino "Dodong" Codilla as congressman of Leyte's 4th district, comprises of Ormoc City and the municipalities of Kananga, Matag-ob, Palompon, Isabel, Merida and Albuera, there is significant change in the district.

True to his promise, iyang gibubu-an ug daghang proyekto ang mga barangay sakop sa kwatro distrito.

As a journalist in Leyte, (having been in Ormoc City for three years, my hometown is Palompon, now permanently residing in Kananga) I have chronicled these significant changes that took place in our district.

DODONG CODILLA is indeed a true public servant and a development -oriented leader.
